Seed to the Sower

Yesterday, Marvin return from a gig where he played in Mexico. Most of his international dates he's compensated in cash. I picked him up that morning and we headed straight to church. Our pastor's message was electrifying as he taught on "Be Anxious for Nothing."

About half way through the service, a lady got up from her seat and placed an offering on the altar. Shortly thereafter, a man followed. It started off as a trickle; a sower here, and a sower there. Before long, droves of people began to sow in that moment.

I usually don't carry cash, but desperately wanted to get in on the sowing. Knowing that Marvin had some on him, I got his attention and made a hand motion to give me some money. He gave me $100 and I in turn placed our seed on the altar, too.

Three days later, Marvin received a call to cut drums for an entire album. The money he'll be paid is several hundred times more that what we planted. Looking back, I see that God gave us seed to sow from the date he had in Mexico.

That has been our lives in this industry. We sow, we reap. Even when it has been our last, we've given in anticipation and expectation. The music industry is too fickle to not prove God on a regular basis with our finances. God can't get anything to you with a closed hand. He challenges us to give and it shall be given...

I've often said that had it not been for the grace of God, we'd be driving a hooptie and living in the ghetto. In addition to hard work and integrity, we have given ourselves into the lifestyle that we enjoy.

My pastor once said you can't out give God, no matter how hard you try. He's right but it sure has been a blessing trying.
